[Video] Ice Cube Explains Why He Still Embraces His Rap Roots When Other Rappers Turned Actors Don't
In an interview with TheWellVersed & 2DopeBoyz, Ice Cube talks about what interests him about new emcees and why, despite “going Hollywood,” he’ll still perform at Rock The Bells and go on tour.
Many of Ice Cube’s peers have moved on to things other than hip-hop. While that is commendable, many have seemingly erased their hip hop roots in their new lives. But not Ice Cube. The original member of N.W.A. and owner of many classic albums says that there’s no way he can abandon what made him.
I’m not like none of them. To me, this is the essence and where I started. I rapped before I did any of that. It’s a no brainer. You always go back to where you started and you always remember where you came from. I’ll never forget my hip hop beginnings. I’m a b-boy through and through and this is what I love to do.
