[Video] ScHoolBoy Q Reveals New Project This Year; Explains Why He Would Never Work With Nas
ScHoolBoy Q has often professed that Nasir Jones is his favorite rapper. Usually, there is nothing better than having that opportunity to collaborate with the rapper that inspired you to step to the microphone. But for Groovy Q, that’s just an opportunity that he would pass on.
“Nas is my favorite rapper, you know what I mean? But I really don’t want to work with Nas because he’s my favorite rapper,” ScHoolBoy Q said in a recent conversation with TheWellVersed and 2DopeBoyz during the Las Vegas stop on the LongLiveA$AP tour with Danny Brown and A$AP Rocky. “I just want him to be my favorite rapper.”
It’s odd that someone who may quite possibly be able to share a studio with the mind behind Illmatic would pass up on the opportunity. At this point in the career of the Top Dawg Entertainment family, the chance to work with just about anybody in the industry is a distinct possibility rather than a farfetched notion. But for Q, he’d rather preserve he idea of who Nas is rather than have that tarnished by an actual meeting.
“Honestly, I don’t even want to meet him,” he continues. “I want to keep it the way it is. He probably doesn’t even know who the f*ck I am and that is beautiful. I just want to keep being a fan of Nas.”
Moving along, we asked Q what the plans were for the rest of TDE. Knowing that the collective has been consistent in dropping a project every quarter, we were curious as to who was next and when.
“I don’t know if I want to drop something now or next year,” Q says about his plans following Kendrick Lamar’s success with good kid, m.A.A.d city. “I’m lying man, I’m going to drop something this year. Let me stop. I’m going to drop something this year and my album next year. You’ve got something to look forward to.”
There it is.

Like that old saying of never wanting to meet your heroes. It’s true. It’s usually a let down.
