[Video] ScHoolBoy Q Talks Shyne's Hate, Beef With Blu & If He Feels That TDE Has "Made It"
With Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d. city having an opening salvo reaching over 240k units sold, the overwhelming thought was that Top Dawg Entertainment has made it. But according to ScHoolBoy, Kendrick’s success doesn’t equate to the entire TDE roster breaking out.
“I wouldn’t say that I made it; Kendrick made it, but we haven’t made it,” Q said as he spoke with TheWellVersed and 2DopeBoyz during the Las Vegas stop on the LongLiveA$AP tour. “We still want to take it to the next level. We’ve all dropped independent albums and that’s a big accomplishment for us to show up on Billboard. But Kendrick is the one who actually made it.
“What I’m doing is grinding because tomorrow this can all be gone,” he continued from his tour bus as marijuana filled the air and A$AP Rocky’s set could be heard in the distance. “Somebody could have a better ad lib than me and steal my little spotlight. My spot can be taken real quick so I gotta keep going hard.”
It’s no secret that ScHoolBoy Q is proud of his TDE brother. Although he was separate from the rest of the crew as Kendrick, Ab Soul and Jay Rock toured together while ScHoolBoy was part of A$AP Rocky’s LongLiveA$AP tour, the family has crossed paths. Kendrick popped up on ScHoolBoy’s birthday in Los Angeles and now Ab Soul joins his fellow TDE member on this stop in Las Vegas. It’s evident that the family is tight knit and they are sharing in the success, but when one detractor comes out of virtually nowhere to call the album trash, you can expect at least one of the members to feel a certain way about it.
“Kendrick sells a bunch of records and has corny n*ggas like Shyne hating on him,” Q says in regards to Shyne’s comments that seemed to come more from a hateful place than one of constructive criticism. “I’ma keep it real: (Shyne) is weak and nobody cares. He can’t come back. He can feel like it’s trash if he wants to but my homie is moving units. What’s his homie doing? Honestly, I don’t even want to talk about it. Shame on that n*gga.”
Speaking of detractors, a few weeks ago, Q was blindsided by a tweet from fellow California rapper Blu that suggested Q dissed him on the song “Gangsta In Designer.” Unfortunately for Blu, he was all wrong. The lyric “Sticking to the script like mu’f*cking glue/ Got your birdie on my wood like the bitches from the Lou” was misconstrued as “Blu” instead of “glue.” Because of that, Q did what he knows best and messed with the former XXL freshman.
“I don’t care about Blu like that, he just jumped into some weird sh*t,” Q says as he’s still blow away by the left field antics which ended in Blu asking for the two to collaborate. “I don’t know, I guess he ain’t eating. I have a show every night. I ain’t trippin. He’s just trying to get some attention but nobody cares.”
As for whether the two will ever work together, ScHoolBoy puts closure on that situation with the quickness.
“I would never do a record with him.”
