He even calls her mother although he earlier disparaged their relationship, but doesn’t let on they’ve been in a fight and she’s missing. He stays all night and heads home in the morning, worried sick. On the drive he thinks of happier times, like driving the children home after their California trip; Megan navigating and him humming The Beatles’ “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”

When he gets to their apartment the chain is on the door. He’s angry and relieved, but she won’t unlock the chain and he kicks the door in. “I thought you were dead,” he says. She hits him, they struggle, and he chases her around the apartment until they collapse on the floor. “It was a fight, it’s over,” he reasons. She shakes her head. “Every time we fight it just diminishes this a little bit.” She gets up to go to work and he gets on his knees and grabs her. “I thought I lost you.”
