[The Tens] The 10 Worst Professional Athlete Attempts At Other Sports
James Toney In UFC

James “Lights Out” Toney is a decorated, championship boxer. He is not, however a mixed martial artist. The boxing vs. MMA debate has long been discussed and as a boxer, Toney obviously felt that his sport was more superior. In comments he stated: “Why should I be scared of an MMA fighter? What’s different? MMA ain’t no different than boxing. Boxing is much tougher because you’re in there constantly punching and pounding.”
Toney made his mixed martial arts debut (foolishly) against UFC legend Randy Couture with the intention of showing that boxing was the most effective combat style. He was taken down to the mat 15 seconds into the bout and tapped out at 3:19 after Couture locked him into an arm triangle. Toney was unable to throw a single punch.
Though he was released by UFC following the bout, Toney will reportedly face Ken Shamrock sometime in 2012.
