[The Tens] The 10 Non-Hip Hop Rookies To Watch In 2012

Frank Ocean

If there were any artist coming into 2012 with a spotlight bigger than Frank Ocean’s, we’d be hard pressed to find them. The OFWGKTA affiliate rose to prominence in 2011, and the Def Jam singer has all the means to completely take over in the year to come. His unique songwriting, distinct voice, and ability to craft a catchy tune has the world wondering if he can live up to all the attention he’s getting. Considering he’s already written songs for Beyoncé, as well as collaborated with Kanye West and Jay Z, and his Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape was one of 2011’s best. All eyes on Mr. Ocean. – Esau Howard
