Frankie Edgar
It took Frankie Edgar more than 55 minutes to defeat Gray Maynard. The first night they met in the cage, Edgar went home a loser for the first time in his career. On the second night they mixed it up, “The Answer” remained champion although he couldn’t call himself victorious. On the third night they fought, the New Jersey-native shoved destiny aside for a fourth-round punch TKO against “The Bully.” A 1-0-1 record on paper does nothing to signal fighter of the year. Edgar setting the UFC’s lightweight record for title defenses at three, thrilling in two cinematic comeback contests against Maynard this year with heart for the ages, does.
