[The Tens] The 10 Most Disappointing Hip Hop Albums Of 2011

2011 was a great year for hip-hop. However, there were quite a few albums that failed to live up to the hype. In some cases, the projects were truly bad. Others simply had an aura of hype surrounding it that the artists could never live up to. We’re not saying that all the albums on this list are particularly bad; we’re saying that they just weren’t what they could and should have been.

I would agree with 80-90 percent of this list. This list is on point. People need to be reminded. The site didn’t say the albums were wack. They are saying that they wanted/expected more. I even understand the issue with Watch The Throne…and I thoroughly enjoyed that album. But people expected a pure classic.

No erupting from an egg to dispaly she was Born This Way was perdictable and boring! We do agree on the most important point though, she is talented musically and should focus on that! My point, which I raised in a previous comment, was that I truly believe deep down the money and sales mean more to her.I hope she goes ahead and proves me wrong!

very good list, I haven’t heard all the albums on there because some of these guys just don’t interest me but overall i think it was on point. “Reggie” was spot on to include, like you said most people have forgot about it by this time but that was aboslutely horrendous. The Game’s shit was boring besides “Born in the Trap” and YES, “The Throne” was probably the #1 dissapointment for me… i did expect a great album just like you, but in my opinion it’s only got a half good one at that (and that’s only if i’m allowed to count the bonus tracks LOL).

i got here through 2DopeBoyz but will start to check this site out and every now and then. i like the writing.

“Aside from DJ Premier’s beat on “Born in the Trap”, not much else on this album will be remembered down the road.”

THE CITY will be remembered down the road..that one song completely murks the rest of that wack ass album

I agree with most of the listing, even WTT. People had high expectations and overall, the album was a classic, but when you have Jay Z AND Kanye West…that’s detrimental, but people just had their hopes too high because of their past projects. The Game’s R.E.D. Album?…Decent at best. I wonder how Jayceon feels though seeming as Kendrick’s verse on “The City” slaughtered the rest of his album. Wale’s album was great too, but some tracks were WAY better than others. Lupe?..We won’t even get into him. Wiz, only 3, maybe 4 tracks mattered, everything else sucked. Mac Miller is terrible & overrated. Wayne is a disappointment. I’ve heard better from The Cool Kids, even though Sir Michael Rocks’ solo projects were too nice. Tyler, the Creator is okay, but his music gets annoying after awhile.

I think I am part of the select few that actually liked Game’s album. Other than that, your sentiments make plenty of sense.

      stack.

Carter iv is a disappointment because Weezy still wants to claim that he’s one of the best rappers out, even though he hasn’t done anything to try to prove that in years and makes all this commercial, over the top music.

Quit dickriding Watch The Throne just because Jay-Z & Kanye made it. The album was overrated & deserves to be in this list.

Good review on Game. What the hell is he thinking? If he can’t combine fatherhood with emceeing then he shouldn’t be touching the mic at all – he’s just destroying his legacy. Also, what the fuck is up with his management? The promotion they did for The R.E.D Album was the weakest to-date.

Joints still in my iTunes list from the album are Born In The Trap, Ricky and Good Girls Go Bad. I got more tunes from his mix tapes he dropped this year. Game needs to get his shit together, he ain’t lost it I bet he could still be that Documentary/Doctor’s Advocate-rapper we saw

dude you’re stupid. Drake’s take care was a massive fucking disappointment, watch the throne was one of the best albums of the year. And who was even anticipating redman’s album? what sort of credibility do you have

I agree with most of this list. WTT was a good album, didn’t really expect much more because Kanye was on his game but Jay is aging. The older tracks (taken from the G.O.O.D. Fridays series the year before) showed Jay in good form. It’s those damn critics that love everything that Ye and Jay do.

I especially agree about Carter IV, it has zero playback value except for the tracks that he ain’t in.

You must’ve needed Jesus singing vocals, and the prophet Muhammad to do background because WTT was definitely a classic.

I just got into Wale’s “Ambition” and that song is bumping in my IPod daily. However, he’s straying away from his DC roots and trying to be like he’s Rick Ross or something. Watch the Throne sound like a pop rap record for suburban high school white girls. The Red Album was boring. Too many people wanted it to revive West Coast rap, but it fell short. Mac Miller wouldn’t have gotten as far as he did if he was black or Latino with that corny style he got, hopefully he will fade away like Asher Roth. A lot of us older rap listeners wanted Redman to come back, I guess we have to wait longer until he reunites with the E Double. In his day he was way better than a lot of the crappy MCs on this list. How can you consider Mac Miller dope then say you don’t care about A new Redman album. These young kids today don’t know nothing about this music; I’m glad I came up when I did, you all are only getting half the story!

Whoa! Fade away like Asher Roth? You must not listen to music bro. Asher ROth ahad one of the dopest (if not THE dopest) mixtapes of 2011. Pabst & Jazz is damn near perfect. Niggaz like you kill me . Clown
