Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis Scheduled For UFC On FOX 2

If you were disappointed Rashad Evans and Phil Davis did not get the chance to square off in the Octagon this past August, the UFC gave you some great news this week. The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that Evans and Davis, who were originally scheduled to fight each other at UFC 133, will now headline the UFC On FOX 2 card in January.
Both fighters were scheduled to compete at UFC 140 next Saturday, but were each forced out due to injury. With Lyoto Machida now getting the chance to face UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones, Evans has lost yet another title shot due to an injury. A win would solidify the former champ’s spot as the number one contender, but as we have seen, there’s no guarantee that means he’ll get the next title shot.
For Phil Davis, the opportunity presents itself once again to jump right into the 205 lbs. championship picture with an upset over Evans. A win could provide Davis a legitimate case to make at getting his own title shot against the winner of Jones/Machida. A Davis win could bode well for Dan Henderson as well, who recently defeated Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in an all-time classic bout.
UFC On FOX 2 is scheduled to take place on January 28, 2012 at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The event will likely feature a longer time slot as well as another fight on the nationally-televised portion of the card, unlike the inaugural UFC On FOX.
