[TWV Exclusive Interview] Kendrick Lamar: Origins Of Excellence Pt. 3

Some people may not be aware of this but it was a Charles Hamilton show in NYC that helped put Kendrick Lamar on the map. It was shortly after I met Kendrick at BET when they invited me out to see Jay Rock open up for Charles at SOBs. I should have went, but I didn’t because I had to be at a Kid Cudi listening session. After I left that session, my phone started blowing up about how some California rapper tore Charles to shreds at his own show. A couple minutes after those initial calls I received a call from Dude Dawg of TDE saying how I missed out on K. Dot owning the show. It was official, Kendrick Lamar had arrived.

In the third and final part of our Kendrick Lamar interview, Kendrick recalls the day when he put the industry on notice (with video of the night), the holdup on Detox, being an 8-year-old at the first “California Love” video and the storyline on all of his projects.
