Lupe Fiasco Feeds Chicago's Hungry In Honor Of Ramadan

Say what you want about Lupe Fiasco, Lasers, or his views on President Barack Obama; the man is doing some wonderful things in the community; among them, the Annual Zakat Community Meal (Ramadan).

The Lupe Fiasco Foundation; based in Fiasco’s native Chicago, promotes the growth of inner city youth ages 10-24 using educational advancement, service learning, leadership, global capacity building and music education.

Partnering with the New Birth Christian Center and the West Englewood Methodist Church and the Iman Foundation, the Zakat Community Meal feeds 100 needy families each day until August 31st, in honor of Ramadan.

In addition to this event, the Foundation also hosts an annual coat drive and benefit concert, along with music education, scholarship and service programs throughout the year. According to Fiasco, he’s called by duty to do so.

“This is a contribution to positive youth development, resiliency and hope for Chicago youth. We are honored to give back to communities where greatness dwells,” Lupe says on the Foundation website. “We are obligated to nurture the genius of youth who live in the same communities from whence I came. We strive to be a relevant provider of quality programs that inspire youth to reach their highest potential as world influencers, artists and scholars.”
