Bloomberg Using Own Funds In Helping Minority Youth

Today in the times it was reported that Bloomberg (we call him Bloomy, Bloomers, whatever) has plans to use his own cash to fund a program to help minority young men in NYC. Bloomy will be putting up about 30m of his own cash for the project. That amount will be matched by billionaire George Soros and the rest of the 130m dollar bill will be paid by the city.
The program has a few time honored techniques in mind to address the issues surrounding the mass failing of attainment of the American dream by minority men all over the city. Although the populations of white, black and Latino men in NYC are just about even, the disparity in almost every category stands as a testament to just exactly how NYC has failed them. The city’s plan is to create five satellite probation offices in five of the city’s worst neighborhoods and inside community organizations where the young men can take classes in things that may help them like yoga to help control their anger or computer classes to help prepare them for the workforce.
All in all the plan is the most ambitious of the welfare plans previously proposed by the city. Not only would it put the statistical doings of minority man in it’s own category on the city’s educational grading but it is distinctly trying to help a section of the population that is both distrustful of those in positions of authority and that is vilified on a regular basis by the surrounding community. The move is bound to also bring calls of reverse racism, where in people of the majority earnings community in the city wax poetic about who is helping them. While controversial, the move also illuminates how serious the problems in minority men’s communities are in NYC and highlights an administration brave enough to talk about it.
