[The Tens] The Niceguys’ 10 Favorite Beers For Any Occasion

(Editor’s Note: If you didn’t know, The Niceguys are a bunch of beer guzzling rappers who would probably drop the mic in a heartbeat if they could get a well paying job tasting beers for a living. But since they can’t, they decided to link up with TWV and drop this list of their ten favorite beers to chug on any occasion. Oh yeah, THIS video of them drinking is solid gold.)

Written by The Niceguys

In honor of our performance this Saturday at Hermann Square Park for the Inaugural Houston Beer Fest, we decided to compile a list of our favorite beers, in no specific order, except for our #1 beer shiner. So grab your favorite beer, and take a journey with us to Beerdrinkingdrunkingtonland. Read, comment, debate, drink, and be merry.

Shiner Bock

This is the official beer of The Niceguys and Wire Road Studios! Not really but we drink it more than any other beer pretty much. Shiner is a domestic, brewed at the legendary Spoetzl brewery right here in the great state of Texas…..Shiner, Texas to be exact. Shiner is of course a Bock beer, smooth and really refreshing, not too heavy, so you could drink a few of them without feeling like you just swallowed an entire loaf of bread, pause. Anyway, we definitely endorse this beer and encourage you to grab a 12 pack and enjoy, responsibly, or not. Shiner has a 4.4% alcohol volume, and its also a great beer to put your lady friends on that aren’t into dark beers, they will fall in love, with the beer, and hopefully you by the end of the night.

Dos Equis

Good ol Dos Equis, one of our favorite imports, is a special lager, brewed at the also legendary Cuauhtémoc-Moctezuma Brewery, which is responsible for other great cervezas like Sol, Carta Blanca and another personal favorite of ours, Tecate. Dos has a 4.45% alcohol volume, as well as a smooth taste; it’s a great beer to have if you plan on having women around (true story.) Though recently it’s become more known for its ad campaign than the actual beer itself, it’s still a legit beer that we would definitely recommend, great with food as well. Enjoy

Guinness Stout

Wuttup Ireland! Guinness is an import beer, an Irish dry-stout straight from St. James Gate brewery in Dublin, Ireland, created by Mr. Arthur Guinness. It’s a thick, creamy, aged beer with a very distinct taste to it, either you love it or you hate it, it’s has a malty, milky taste that once you’re used to, you’ll grow to enjoy. This stout has 5% alcohol by volume so it’ll definitely get you there, its been called a “meal in a glass” but its not as heavy as you may think. The ladies may not like this one, but if she does, she’s a keeper, or just an alcoholic, or both. Find out

Kirin Ichiban

Here we have the Japanese import Kirin Ichiban, its become pretty popular here in the states. Kirin Ichiban is brewed by the Kirin Brewing Company, it originated in Tokyo, Japan and first appeared sometime in the 90s. Kirin has a nice, unique taste, also leaves little to no aftertaste which is definitely a plus, if you’re having sushi, or need a great beer for Sake bombs, make this is your go-to brew.

Modelo Especial

Here we have our second cerveza on the list, the also very popular, Modelo Especial. The Mexican brewery, Grupo Modelo, which also happens to be Mexico’s largest brewery, brews Modelo Especial; along with several beers you may know, like Corona. Modelo is a pilsner beer, it has a crisp, light, and refreshing taste. This brew is reminiscent of Corona, minus the bitter aftertaste. You can go with a Corona since it is the “sexy” beer, but Modelo is honestly much better. Modelo comes in at 4.4% alchohol by volume, so grab one, and vamos a emborracharnos!

Stella Artois

Here we have everyone’s favorite Belgian brew, Stella Artois, the ancient beer that has apparently been around since 1366 (at least that’s what they say). Stella is a Belgian lager that comes from the Leuven, Belgium, Stella Artois brewery. This beer is 5% alcohol by volume, so it’s a more potent beer, but still has a rich, yet smooth, malty taste. Artois does possess that bitter aftertaste that most lagers have, but as far as premium lagers go, this is probably one of your best bets. Side note for the guys, ladies absolutely love Stella, so if you want to impress a girl with a great beer that’s not too heavy, buy her a few of these. Trust us, we speak from experience.

Xingu

Here we have one of the world’s best dark lagers, Xingu Black Beer. Xingu is a two-time winner of the Testing Institute’s Gold Medal for the world’s best dark lager, so this beer is definitely legitimate. We tried it for the first time at a Brazilian bistro and loved it, it’s got a rich, silky taste to it, and you can almost taste a hint of coffee and chocolate, sweet with a touch of bitterness. It’s almost like a lighter, sweeter, more flavorful version of Guinness Stout. This is definitely a weird beer, but a very good weird. Xingu has 4.6% alcohol by volume, tastes great, goes down easy, good with food, and yes, the ladies will enjoy. If you want to impress a hot Brazilian chick, or just look like a cultured beer connoisseur, order this.

Strongbow

This stuff right here! We love it! Strongbow is one of The Niceguys favorites; this cider has been responsible for many drunken, fun filled nights. Strongbow is a dry cider, made in England by the H.P. Bulmer brewing company; it is also the best selling cider in the world, as you can see we mess with the champs! Strongbow is an extremely tasty beverage, with a nice apple flavor, blended with a bittersweet cider taste. This cider has 5.3% alcohol by volume, so drink irresponsibly. If you’re looking for a beer, well….cider, that women will absolutely love, this is your pick! Strongbow has a great taste, comes in a cool can and bottle, chicks love it, and it wont leave you feeling bloated like you just ate an entire meal, so drink up.

Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR)

Back to America! Here we have one of our new favorites, Pabst Blue Ribbon, brewed right here in the United States. PBR is brewed by the Pabst Brewing Company, which was established in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, then re-located to Los Angeles, California. Pabst is one of the great American lagers, you may not see it on every commercial or billboard, but it’s definitely up there with the top dogs, at least as far as taste and overall quality goes. This one goes down like water, very high on the drinkability scale, crisp taste, a hint of corn and a slight bitterness, no flavors really stand out, has more of a balanced taste which we love. We love this beer because its light, refreshing as hell, and you can drink like 10 of them and not feel full, but you will be very drunk, due to its 5% alcohol by volume. Enjoy this one folks, it’s one of the best domestics you’ll come across.

Spaten

Here is our last, but not least, featured beer, Spaten Premium Lager. This beer is brewed by Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu in Munich, Germany. Spaten is a lager, with a nice “biscuity” taste, along with a hint of citrus and malt (pardon the beer description words, when in Rome, it really does taste as described though.) Anyway, this is quality beer, from a country that knows all about getting drunk properly, this beer has a 5.2% alcohol by volume, so you’ll probably be somewhat intoxicated by your fifth of sixth in a row, unless you’re blessed with a high tolerance like us! Haha! Grab a case of these, a few hot German girls and let the Spaten handle the rest!

The Niceguys do not endorse drinking and driving, but we do endorse everything else you can do while being drunk (endless possibilities). Thanks for your time, and remember, The James Kelley EP is on the way, in the meantime you can check out our first album the show on www.thenicelook.com, hit us up on facebook at www.facebook.com/theniceguysmusic or follow us on twitter @TheNiiceguys. Thanks for reading, now get off your computer and go enjoy some beer!

    Oria

I’m not a huge beer fan, but I love, absolutely LOVE an ice cold ESPECIAL!!! Have argued with many that it is sooooo much better than a Corona….but eh, I digress…also I’m in love with Blue Moon, these are practically the only beers I will drink, unless my money is funny…lol…then I’ll settle for a Bud Light…cuz u can always find it on a happy hour for dirt cheap!!!! Judging from you guys list though, y’all have great palettes and should come visit the bar where I work sometime as we have a few of your favorites(according to the list :-) ) on tap! Bar 5015 located at 5015 Almeda Houston, TX!!! Ask for Oria and if I’m not there, eh, tell em’ I sent ya!!!! Later guys!

I agree with alot of these choices. But if I had to subtract one and add one, I would take away Strong Bow and add St. Arnolds Lawnmower. St. Arnolds is brewed in Houston, TX (wut wut) and as St Arnolds put it…”Lawnmower Beer is a world class brew yet light enough to be enjoyed by Texans after strenuous activities, like mowing the lawn.” Runner Up: Abita Purple Haze or Turbo Dog

Very nice lists! If you’re a fan of Spaten, I also recommend PAULANER HEFE-WEISEN. that’s probably the smoothest German beer I’ve ever tasted. Oh, and I’m with Thurgood, you can’t leave out Houston’s own St. Arnold’s, but also don’t forget Southern Star (Conroe, TX). Their Buried the Hatchet Stout and Pine Belt Pale are a beer drinkers delight!
