[FRESHNESS] Video: Pharrell Talks Bionic Yarn Clothing

Return Textiles is  a company which has made an amazing breakthrough in fabric development with the use of recycled plastics. Renaissance man, Pharrell Williams joined the company in 2008 and states the creation of the bionic fabric permits sustainability. In the video below Tyson Toussant along with Pharrell explain the process and how its actually possible to create quality garments simply from recycled plastics.  I actually agree with the entire concept which is why I’m not sure exactly I have not heard of this until now since the  N.E.R.D. front man has been pushing the  idea of bionic fabrics since 2008.

After reading a bit more and exploring opinions I came across a question that was mentioned by Chris Yuscavage as to why the eco-friendly process has not actually caught on until…almost now. Could the process be more costly? The process sounds flawless until you ponder on the machinery/technology involved in the manufacturing. Would we see a price difference in clothing, more expensive/less expensive? I would imagine the price being somewhat if not definitely different.

In conclusion I’m all for it, and very excited to see where this goes, but with gas amongst other life threatening high prices we’re struggling with day to day, an over priced hoody from the GAP is the last thing I would like to see.  Check out the video below. What do you think?

Does anyone think the panel of analysts was entertaining? They seemed quite candid with their commentary/questions. I found some of it laughable in a condescending way. Maybe its just me…
