The Tens: 10 Non Hip-Hop Acts To Watch In 2011

We love hip-hop just as much as the next person, but sometimes you can feel totally rapped out and be in need for some real chill vibes to get through your day. Which is why we came up with this list of 10 non hip-hop acts that you should really be paying attention to in 2011. Our mission is to put our readers on to something new, and the fact that there is some really good music floating around that people aren’t up on yet is proof positive that we got some work to do. Hopefully this list will get you started (just like our 10 Hip Hop Artists list did earlier this year).

1) King

The perfect story how good music can be found organically and through social networking. Twin sisters Paris and Amber Strother along with Anita Bias slipped a three song EP out on Amazon and then watched as all hell broke loose on the web. Phonte began the movement via Twitter and then everyone from DJ Brainchild to ?uestlove gathered an earful of their beautiful music and fell apart. To say what they have is awesome would be an understatement. We can’t wait to hear what’s next from King.

I was hoping to see a list of new people I could add to my ipod. I already listen to 7 people on the list, now I can add the other 3.

    Booster

Onra should definitely not be on there, while some of his music draws influence from the French house scene, the greater majority would be seen as real Hip-Hop in Its most creative form.
