Frankie Edgar, Gray Maynard Meet Again At UFC 130
It’s official.
After battling to a thrilling five round draw to kick off 2011, lightweight champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar and Gray “The Bully” Maynard will settle the score at UFC 130: Edgar vs. Maynard III, the organization announced today.
The showdown takes place Memorial Day Weekend, May 30 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
Edgar and Maynard’s third meeting will add to a long line of MMA trilogies, putting the pair among some of the sport’s best including Randy Couture/Chuck Liddell, Quinton Jackson/Wanderlei Silva, and Georges St-Pierre/Matt Hughes, to name a few.
“The last time Gray and Frankie fought, they put on one of the best fights of the year,” UFC President Dana White said. “It was the draw no one really complained about. I think a lot of people saw in that fight that Frankie Edgar is the real deal. This is the third and last time these two will come together and the stakes have never been higher.”
In addition to the 155-pound clash, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson returns to action against TUF alum Matt Hamill. Hamill is coming off a victory against Tito Ortiz and looks to take a step into the stacked 205-pound division’s top five ranks. A win over Hamill may push Jackson over the hill and earn him a title shot.
Frank Mir also looks to add to his winning streak as he takes on Ultimate Fighter Season 10 winner Roy “
Big Country” Nelson. Stefan Struve does battle with Travis Browne and “All American” Brian Stann looks to build on the momentum of a big win over Chris Leben against newly signed UFC fighter Jorge Santiago.
Tickets for UFC 130 go on sale Saturday, March 19.
