No New Mortal Kombat Movie (Yet), But Webisodes Coming

While fans of Mortal Kombat await the arrival of a proper R rated remake to the movie “Mortal Kombat”, Warner Bros is backing a 10 episode web series based on the popular video game.

The short film shown below, directed by Kevin Tancharoen, was done without the backing of Warner Bros, who currently own the rights to Mortal Kombat. Apparently taking notice of the response received by the short film, Warner has signed up Kevin Tancharoen to direct a 10 episode web series. Writing will be handled by Mr. Tancharoen, and Todd and Aaron Helbing (the Helbing brothers are both writers for the series Spartacus: Blood and Sand) Michael Jai White, featured in the short, has signed on to play the role of Jax, in the web series.

For those looking for their Mortal Kombat fix the traditional way, the new “Mortal Kombat” is currently scheduled to hit US retailers April 19, 2011.
