PSP2 Rumored To Be Announced January 27th In Tokyo

With several images floating around (the above being a supposed “dev kit” given to developers currently working on games), rumor has it the PSP2 will be announced January 27th at an event out in Tokyo. While Sony has refused to comment, word is that select press have been invited to this event and informed ahead of time, while developers have known for over a year.

The timing on this announce would be a great strategy for Sony in an attempt to gain ground in the handheld market, as Nintendo’s retail dominating “DS” will be coming out with it’s newest model, the “3DS,” in America in March (February 26th in Japan).

The dev kit shown above is said to have a camera (top right) and a microphone. Visibly shown are two analogs, a complaint levied constantly against the PSP, and not improved upon by the PSPgo. The device is said to have twice the RAM of a xbox360, and graphics to rival the PS3.

More on this story as it develops.
